Golden Globes 'High-Key Petty' to Nominate Christopher Plummer for Reshot Kevin Spacey Role

13th Annual Monte Cristo Awards - InsideIt's savage. It's kinda funny, too, until you realize Patrick Stewart could've had that spot for "Logan."

The 2018 Golden Globe nominations came out this morning, and director Ridley Scott's "All the Money in the World" picked up nominations for himself as director, Michelle Williams for best actress in a drama, and Chrisopher Plummer for best supporting actor.

The Plummer one was especially surprising since he famously took over that role in November, after the movie was already finished, when Ridley Scott decided to replace Kevin Spacey. Scott did some very quick reshoots to keep the film's December 22 release ate, which was eventually changed to Christmas Day itself.

So, somehow -- in the past few weeks -- Ridley Scott reshot and edited the film, put out a new trailer, and got screeners out to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for awards consideration?

The nominations, especially for Plummer, felt like more of a slap to Kevin Spacey than an award for Christopher Plummer, no matter how good he probably is in the movie. (And when is he ever not good?)

It's true that the Golden Globes are the "fun" awards show -- known for boozy speeches and the insular HFPA's adoration of famous names -- as opposed to the more respected and serious Academy Awards. Fans can judge Plummer's performance as J. Paul Getty when "All the Money in the World" opens on December 25. The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will air Sunday, January 7 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
