Disney Streaming Service Will Cost Less Than Netflix

Good news, everybody: Disney's streaming service will reportedly cost "substantially" less than Netflix.

Disney CEO Bob Iger says (per Polygon), "We've given a lot of thought to pricing. I can't get specific with you yet, because we haven't determined it yet. It will be substantially below Netflix because we'll have substantially less volume."

True, but they will have primo Disney-owned content, including Marvel and "Star Wars" movies.

Netflix just raised its monthly streaming subscription rate to $10.99, so whatever is "substantially" less than that remains to be seen. Hulu's monthly fee is $7.99, so that could be the ballpark Disney is aiming for.

Disney will reportedly launch its streaming service in 2019 with 500 films from the Disney library and approximately 7,000 episodes of Disney TV. That is a lot less than Netflix, who offered 4,335 movies and 1,197 TV series in 2016, according to an AllFlicks report.

Of course, once the catalog on Disney's streaming service increases, so will its prices.

The yet-to-be-titled streaming service will be Disney-branded and not include any R-rated movies, according to Iger.
