'Thor: Ragnarok' Will Have 'Some Very Respectable Fun' Explaining Jane Split

"Thor: Ragnarok" is not going to ignore the absence of Natalie Portman's astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster. Whatever happened between Thor and his now-ex will be addressed in "fun" fashion, Chris Hemsworth told ScreenRant.

ScreenRant had asked Hemsworth if Thor was just over Jane or what. Here's his response:

"Umm, no we have this, we have some... some very respectable fun with how that relationship may have come to an end [laughs]."

Interesting...

We know Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie will be Thor's new love interest, but that comes with a very different dynamic, including Thor basically "meeting his hero" because of her history and status. She's a beautiful woman who could also beat the sh*t out of him if she wanted, as Hemsworth put it, and he's not used to that.

"It certainly wasn't the case with Jane. There was a whole different affection and love there. So that was another, you know, 'How can we make that different from the previous one?'"

Last year, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said there were "many reasons" why Jane wasn't returning, after being Thor's love interest in his first two films.

Earlier this year, he explained more to EW:

"We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between 'The Dark World' and 'Ragnarok' and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely."

Portman told the Wall Street Journal last year that she thinks she's done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

"I don't know if maybe one day they'll ask for an 'Avengers 7' or whatever I have no idea. But as far as I know, I'm done."

"Thor: Ragnarok" will be released in theaters on November 3.
