Sony's 'Close Encounters' Teaser 'Means Something,' and Here's What

Those five music notes. We'd know them anywhere.

On July 3, Sony dropped a 56-second teaser video simply titled "This Means Something." The video started with old school computer -- black screen, green type -- featuring these words:

"Every day air traffic control tracks
thousands of planes.

But every so often, they see something...

That cannot be explained."

The video synopsis added:

"This means something.
This is important.

What was happening? Those last music notes clued fans into a connection to Steven Spielberg's 1977 sci-fi classic "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," leading many to think this was a teaser for a sequel or reboot. Turns out ... not quite.

WeAreStillNotAlone.com takes fans to a page where you can "sign up to receive updates on UFO sightings," but -- according to Variety -- it's a Sony page for fans to connect with the campaign. This year marks the 40th anniversary of "Close Encounters," and Sony plans to re-release the film theatrically in select theaters for one week on Sept. 1.

So -- unfortunately/fortunately depending on where you stand on this -- it doesn't look like there are any plans for a "Close Encounters" reboot or sequel. Not yet, anyway. But considering today's movie climate, it wouldn't shock us to hear, after the re-release in September and official anniversary in November, that there were plans for more. The truth is still out there.
