Quentin Tarantino won't be making "Deadpool 2," but apparently the director has a good reason for not helming the superhero sequel: He only plans to make two more movies before retiring from directing entirely.
The writer-director -- who has been hinting at a potential retirement after completing his 10th film for several years now -- confirmed that decision while
appearing at the Adobe Max creativity conference in San Diego on Thursday.
"Drop the mic. Boom. Tell everybody, 'Match that shit,'" Tarantino explained to the crowd of the statement that he hoped to make with that 10-film oeuvre.
Those films don't encompass, however, a nonfiction project that the director has been researching for four years about cinema in the year 1970. That work could become "a book, a documentary, a five-part podcast" Tarantino said, though he hasn't made up his mind yet. After that, he'll start work on his next full-length, original feature, which is set in 1930s Australia and has a "Bonnie and Clyde" bent.
Such an eclectic output already makes Tarantino unique, and the director is gunning for greater Hollywood glory after his work is done.
"Hopefully, the way I define success when I finish my career is that I'm considered one of the greatest filmmakers that ever lived," he told the Adobe Max crowd. "And going further, a great artist, not just filmmaker."
