The seventh and final installment of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" book series, "
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," was so eventful that it was split into two parts for its big screen adaptation. But according to a star from one of the series's earlier movie adaptations, there was an additional storyline that was written specifically for that film, but was ultimately cut from the final version.
Stanislav Ianevski, who played Durmstrang's Triwizard Tournament champion Viktor Krum in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," recently revealed in an
interview with Entertainment Weekly's Binge podcast that he almost made an appearance in "Deathly Hallows," too -- and was meant to make some trouble for the burgeoning romance between Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson). According to Ianevski, the scene in question was the brainchild of director David Yates, and took place at the wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour, which occurs near the beginning of "Deathly Hallows - Part 1."
"We did a new dance scene, I sort of stole [Hermione] from Ron," the actor explained. "She remembered our old times, Viktor was acting like a gentleman again, happy to see her, she was happy to see him. Ron was sitting on the side, was jealous, and then Viktor took her to the dance floor."
Alas, Yates decided to cut the scene, though the actor understands why.
" ... [I]t obviously didn't fit with all the horrible things that happen in the last book," Ianevski told EW. Still, he thinks things could still have worked out between the Quidditch player and the smartest girl at Hogwarts.
"If the story from the seventh [film] that David Yates invented extended itself then maybe they would've gotten into a fight with Ron, and Viktor would obviously win and then live happily on forever with Hermione," the actor said.
Sounds like he and Rowling -- who has admitted
she has some regrets about pairing up Ron and Hermione -- should get together for some drinks and write their own "Potter" fanfic.
