Good news! We don't have to keep calling them
"Avengers: Infinity War - Part I" and
"Avengers: Infinity War - Part II." Bad news: There's no official name for Part II yet. (Maybe just call that one Tweedledum.)
Part I will now, officially, just be called "Avengers: Infinity War." That's scheduled for May 4, 2018. Part II is currently just being called "Untitled Avengers." That one is scheduled for May 3, 2019, so they -- they being Marvel and the Russo Brothers and Whoever -- have plenty of time to come up with a real title.
Why don't they already have something? Here's
Collider's theory:
"The temporary title is interesting because it suggests a couple of things. Either studio brass has yet to agree on a snappy title that will appeal to casual fans and hardcore comic book readers alike, or that a major event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be reflected in the eventual title, which could act as a spoiler if it was revealed too early. The reason could also be a combination of these factors."
Time will tell. A couple of months ago, Josh Brolin (Thanos) talked to Moviefone about his excitement for the "Infinity War" movies:
"Yeah, I sat at a table and I listened to the story from beginning to end, which was ... you know, sometimes you go around and you go, "Oh, it's a great movie. Or this is a great experience," and you kind of know that it's not. This is the opposite. [...] [T]hese Avengers stories all come down to this conclusion, and that's our involvement. Basically, my character against everybody. And it's really fun what they've chosen to do with the story. I think it's brilliant, personally. I was blown away, and had goose pimples pretty much 50% of the time that I was listening to what was going on, and pretty amazed that I'm going to be involved in it. So it's a big thing that's coming up."
Next up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is "Doctor Strange." Then 2017 brings "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," and "Thor: Ragnarok." "Black Panther," "Infinity War," and "Ant-Man and the Wasp" arrive in 2018. "Captain Marvel" will get her own film in 2019, along with the "Untitled Avengers" follow-up to "Infinity."
