Dwayne Johnson Wants to Remake 'Big Trouble in Little China' ~ amazing movies

Following the upcoming remakes of "Point Break" and "Escape from New York," another cult classic action flick is set for a second life: "Big Trouble in Little China."

TheWrap reports that the remake is already deep in the works, with "San Andreas" star Dwayne Johnson spearheading the production. Johnson would star, taking over the role originated by Kurt Russell in the 1986 feature.

Johnson also wants to produce the flick, which according to TheWrap is one of his favorite movies. The site also reports that screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz ("X-Men: First Class," "Thor") have already secured a deal to pen the screenplay.

"Big Trouble in Little China" centered around Jack Burton (Russell), described by TheWrap as "an all-American trucker who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco's Chinatown." The flick, directed by horror and action legend John Carpenter, was a box office disappointment throughout its original run, but thrived on cable reruns and has since earned a cult following (and The Rock's adoration, apparently -- TheWrap notes that the remake was Johnson's idea, and he was the one who approached studio Fox about the project).

Fox didn't respond to TheWrap's report. Stay tuned.
