If the "Ghostbusters" can be women and the new Jedi hero of "Star Wars" a woman, so could Indiana Jones. Steven Spielberg certainly thinks so.
The director recently revealed he plans to start shooting "Indiana Jones 5" next year in England. Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role, but as Spielberg told The Sun, "This will be Harrison Ford's last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that."
And when the blockbuster franchise does continue, he believes the character should take "a different form" — the form of a woman.
"We'd have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that," Spielberg said.
(Sure, though, Steve, Jones is the character's last name. A woman's first name could still be Indiana.)
While story details on "Indiana Jones 5" are non-existent, fans have speculated the movie could introduce a younger protege of Ford's character, like 2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" attempted to do with Shia LaBeouf playing Indy's son, Mutt. Well, that was a big fail, so why not make version 2.0 a woman?
