He's all grows up!
It seems like Lucasfilm is just handing out major production deals left and right lately. But who wouldn't want to work with Jon Favreau? He's already part of the Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm family as director of "Iron Man" and "The Jungle Book" and the upcoming "The Lion King." He's voicing an alien in "Solo: A Star Wars Story," and previously had a role in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."
But it's still cool news to hear that he's set to executive produce and write a live-action "Star Wars" series for Disney's new direct-to-consumer platform (i.e. the new streaming service).
Lucasfilm announced the news today; Favreau is already in fanboy heaven:
"If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn't have believed you. I can't wait to embark upon this exciting adventure."
And here's a statement from president Kathleen Kennedy:
"I couldn't be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base."
The live-action series doesn't have a title or release date yet, but the streaming service is expected in 2019, and it's also expected to cost less than Netflix.
