To no one's surprise, the upcoming Disney streaming service won't include any R-rated movies. Nor will it be streaming any Marvel TV shows like "The Punisher" or "Jessica Jones," Deadline reports.
The streaming service, which will launch in fall 2019, will initially only be available in the U.S., then expand overseas. No subscription price has yet been mentioned, although it's expected to cost less than Netflix.
The R-rated movies will end up on Hulu and the too-violet-for-Disney Marvel TV shows will remain on Netflix, according to Deadline.
There will, however, be an as-yet-unnamed Marvel live-action TV series on the streaming site, per Deadline. That's in addition to "High School Musical," an animated "Monsters Inc." series, and a "Star Wars"-branded title. The article doesn't specify whether that's an existing "Star Wars" series or a new one.
The plan is to have 4 or 5 original movies and 5 original TV series.
The original movie projects being discussed: "Don Quixote," "Lady and the Tramp," "The Paper Magician" (based on the Charlie N. Holmberg book series), "Stargirl," and "Togo," about a hero sled dog. Also look for a "3 Men and a Baby" project, a new version of "The Sword and the Stone," and "Timmy Failure," based on the book by cartoonist Stephan Pastis.
So, to get all the Disney content out there, sounds like you'll have to subscribe to not just the Disney service, but Hulu and Netflix as well.
No word yet on any 20th Century Fox properties.
