We're still more than a month away from the announcement of Oscar nominations, but the Academy is prepping you for your Oscars pool early by revealing the 341 titles that are eligible for a 2017 Best Picture nod.
Obviously, the vast majority of these films will not be making the cut, since Academy rules stipulate that the Best Picture lineup can only feature between five and 10 nominees. But let's be real: Many of these movies won't be getting called in January thanks to the fact that they're not exactly what you'd call Best Picture material. (We're looking at you, "Emoji Movie.") Still, they did meet the Academy's eligibility requirements (Variety has a helpful explainer here), so they're technically in the running.
Despite the inclusion of some eyebrow-raising titles (you probably shouldn't hold your breath, "Transformers: The Last Knight"), the number of actual potential nominees is truly staggering, proving just how wide-open the Oscar race is this year. Films like "Get Out," "Lady Bird," "Call Me By Your Name," "The Post," "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," and "The Shape of Water" have already gotten a bunch of recognition from critics groups and guilds, and it seems safe to say that some or all of them will be among the Academy's final group. But which one will reign supreme?
While we wait for that answer, take a look at the full lineup from the Academy here, and see if you can predict the eventual shortlist. The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 23.
