Meet the next generation of Marvel superheroes!
Marvel announced a new animated movie titled "Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors" featuring young, diverse, up-and-coming superheroes like Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, Miss America, and Spider-Gwen.
Buzzfeed reports that the franchise will launch in 2018 with a series of six, four-minute digital shorts following Spider-Gwen (voiced by Dove Cameron), who is going by her secret new name Ghost-Spider. They will be followed by the feature-length film later in the year.
"It came out of a desire to be able to tell stories about characters that we think are the next great heroes of the Marvel Universe," said Sana Amanat, Marvel's director of content and character development.
"I think it's incredibly important that we tell young women and young girls that they have this incredible power within themselves, and that they have heroes out there [who] ... they can look up to, especially in these times."
Kathreen Khavari is voicing Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, Marvel's first Muslim hero, while Cierra Ramirez voices the comics' first Latino LGBT character America Chavez aka Miss America.
Milana Vayntrub, who will play Squirrel Girl on Marvel's live-action series "New Warriors," will also voice the animated character. "Agents of SHIELD." star Chloe Bennet will voice Quake. But Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers will not be voiced by Brie Larson, who will play the character in the movie; instead, Kim Raver will take on the role.
The team also includes Inferno (Tyler Posey), Patriot (Kamil McFadden), Exile (Booboo Stewart), and Tippy Toe and Lockjaw (Dee Bradley Baker). They'll face off against the villain Hala (Ming-Na Wen).
