DC Films Seeking New Boss After 'Justice League' Disappoints

After "Justice League" massively disappointed at the box office, Warner Bros. is looking for someone else to head up its DC Films division.

According to Variety, the guy who held the job of running the comic book's film production unit, Jon Berg, will now be working with Roy Lee, who produced "The Lego Movie" and "It."

Comic book writer Geoff Johns is expected to continue serving as DC Entertainment's chief creative officer. Although Johns primarily works on DC TV shows and publishing, Variety speculates he could become more involved with upcoming DC films as well.

Warner Bros. expected "Justice League," which reportedly cost as much as $300 million to make, to net in the neighborhood of the first "Avengers" film" ($1.5 billion). Instead, it stalled out at $570.3 million worldwide, so far.

"Justice League" had a famously troubled production, with Joss Whedon stepping in after Zack Snyder's departure. Costly reshoots followed. And then there was the expensive and much-mocked business of CGI-erasing Henry Cavill's mustache.

According to Variety, studio execs understandably hated Steppenwolf, the movie's all-CGI villain, but were stuck with him.

The only bright spot, for now: Audiences liked The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa), so future solo projects with those characters might do better. And, of course, another "Wonder Woman."

As for the upcoming solo Batman movie? It's not official yet, but it's highly unlikely Ben Affleck will be in it.
