This 'Mean Girls' Day, the Cast Is Raising Money for Las Vegas Shooting Victims

'Mean Girls' New York PremiereToday is October 3, a day that "Mean Girls" fans celebrate in honor of the moment in the 2004 flick when Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) informs Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) of the date. But while the occasion is typically marked with a barrage of quotes and GIFs from the film, some members of the "Mean Girls" cast are hoping that this year, the unofficial holiday can mean a little bit more.

In a video message shared on Go Fund Me, Lacey Chabert (who played Gretchen Weiners), Amanda Seyfried (who played Karen Smith), Daniel Franzese (who played Damien), and Bennett teamed up to announce that they were collecting donations to the National Compassion Fund -- an offshoot of the National Center for Victims of Crime -- to benefit victims of Sunday night's deadly shooting in Las Vegas. The actors urge "Mean Girls" fans to give just $3 to the cause, in the hopes of raising $300,000 for those affected by the tragedy.

"We want to turn the attention to those who need it," Bennett explains in the video of the reasoning behind using the October 3 holiday for fundraising.

"We know fetch is never gonna happen," Chabert adds, using her character's favorite new slang term, "but we can make this happen."

As of press time, the campaign had raised more than $16,000. Be grool and check it out at http://ift.tt/2wvevkw.
