The actress, who plays a young Queen Elizabeth on the Netflix series "The Crown" is reportedly the top pick for the role of goth hacker Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl in the Spider's Web." THR reports that Foy has edged out fellow Brit Felicity Jones.
Rooney Mara was Oscar-nominated for her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's 2011 adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." Noomi Rapace ("Prometheus") starred in three Swedish films as Salander, the heroine of the best-selling Stieg Larsson mystery novels.
"Don't Breathe" helmer Fede Alvarez will direct "The Girl in the Spider's Web," based on the fourth book in the series.
Mara wanted to reprise the role, but a second Fincher film never happened.
