Brad Pitt's gone into battle many times in "Inglourious Basterds," "Fury," "Allied," and "Troy," and he's ready to go back in Netflix's "War Machine."
The streaming service released the first trailer for the dark satire, which is a thinly veiled version of the story of General Stanley McChrystal, who led forces in Afghanistan. The "absurdist" tale chronicles how the charismatic, highly decorated general balanced the gritty realities of battle, his government superiors, and the press — only to be taken down by a journalist's exposé.
Pitt looks as sly and smooth as he did in "Burn After Reading," which is a good thing. The movie is based on the nonfiction book "The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan" by late journalist Michael Hastings. It also stars Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, and Topher Grace.
"War Machine" begins streaming May 26 on Netflix.
