The first "Logan" trailer looks nothing like "X-Men" or any other superhero movie. And that is what's most intriguing.
The third Wolverine movie is Rated R (like "Deadpool"), and we had been told it would have a "very cool, different" feel. It's meant to be quite "violent" and "like a Western in its tone." All of that is certainly on display in the trailer. There's almost a Mad Max vibe, but with more wistful sadness than frenetic action.
Set to Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" (which never gets old, by the way), the trailer features a bloody, pained Wolverine (Hugh Jackman); an even more aged Professor X (Patrick Stewart); a mysterious young girl (Dafne Keen) said to be "very much like" Logan; a glimpse of Stephen Merchant's Caliban; and a first look at the villains -- Boyd Holbrook's Pierce and the Reavers.
Watch the trailer:
Charles: "Logan, what did you do?"
Wolverine: "Charles, the world is not the same as it was. Mutants -- they're gone now."
Not all of them. Thankfully.
"Logan" opens March 3, 2017.
