Just put Peter Parker in a cupboard under the stairs and his story isn't
too far from Harry Potter, and
Tom Holland's standalone Spider-Man films may end up following the format used by
Daniel Radcliffe's franchise.
The new Spider-Man made his auspicious debut in
"Captain America: Civil War," and Holland is now filming his first solo movie,
"Spider-Man: Homecoming," for release next July.
Collider talked to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige at Comic-Con, where "Homecoming" footage was shown to the audience but has yet to be released to the public. (Bah!)
Collider asked if they want to keep Peter Parker in high school, if they get a chance to give Spidey sequels. Feige said the plan was to 1) reintroduce Spider-Man into the MCU and leave people wanting more, then 2) make a great first film so fans fall in love with Spidey all over again.
When it comes to sequels, that's when he referenced the successful film franchise for Harry Potter:
"Should we be able to make more after that? Sure. This is sophomore year, is the next one junior year? Is the next one senior year? Is there a summer break between each of those? I don't know what, but it was sort of how do we do a journey for Peter not dissimilar for what the students of Hogwarts would go through each of their years, which was one of the early ideas we had for the movies."
You're going to bring poor Peter Parker back to the Dursleys each summer? Cruel! But it's not a bad idea to follow Spider-Man's journey on a year-to-year basis in high school, as opposed to jumping ahead in time. Just don't do a 19 year flash-forward at the end of it all. Please.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" will be released July 7, 2017.
