Mark Hamill: Sure, Luke Skywalker Could Be Gay ~ amazing movies

Luke Skywalker could be gay, according to actor Mark Hamill.

The inclusion of gay characters in "Star Wars" has been a hot topic since the release of "The Force Awakens," when many fans speculated about a relationship between Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac). That's not likely to happen, but director J.J. Abrams did recently say he would like to see gay characters in future "Star Wars" films.

But now, Hamill points out that maybe there already is a gay character in "Star Wars" — and one of the canon's most important characters.

"Fans are writing and ask all these questions, 'I'm bullied in school ... I'm afraid to come out.' They say to me, 'Could Luke be gay?' I'd say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer," he told The Sun. "If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves."

This echoes what Hamill previously told a fan on Twitter:

Hamill reprises his role as Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," slated for release Dec. 17, 2017. Maybe in that movie, he'll kiss someone other than his sister.
