The upcoming standalone "Wonder Woman" movie had been rumored to be a prequel to "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and now, one of the flick's stars has confirmed that intel -- and dished on the film's detailed period setting.
In an
interview with the Toronto Sun, Chris Pine -- who's playing Steve Trevor, the love interest of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) -- revealed some behind the scenes details about the top secret project, which is currently in production. Among the highlights: The movie takes place long before the events of "Batman v Superman," during World War I.
"[I]t's a period we don't see often; it's usually World War II," Pine told the Sun. "Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I'd never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here."
In addition to that careful attention to detail, Pine praised his director, Patty Jenkins, who he said brought a deft touch to the flick's duality as both a comic book movie and a period piece.
"Patty is just directing the daylights out of it," the actor gushed. "It's shot beautifully [and] feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility."
We can't wait to see it all come together.
"Wonder Woman" is due in theaters on June 23, 2017.
