The authorized biopic traces Ball's 20-year marriage to "I Love Lucy" co-star Desi Arnaz before their divorce in 1950. The project is being produced by their two children, Lucy and Desi Jr.
Blanchett is no stranger to embodying Hollywood icons. She won her first Oscar for playing movie icon Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's "The Aviator." She's also played Queen Elizabeth I twice.
Though the actress has never worked with "Social Network" scribe Sorkin before, their names were linked in the Sony email hack when Sorkin said that Blanchett's Oscar-winning performance in "Blue Jasmine" was "nothing close to the degree of difficulty" of the Best Actor-nominated performances that year.
