'Can't Buy Me Love' Star Amanda Peterson's Cause of Death Revealed

Amanda Peterson, the star of '80s classic "Can't Buy Me Love" who passed away suddenly this summer at the age of 43, died of an accidental drug overdose, according to newly-released autopsy and toxicology reports filed by local authorities.

Peterson's cause of death was revealed this week by the Weld County Coroner in Colorado, which according to Variety stated that the actress's overdose was the result of "a deadly combination of multiple drugs, including morphine," which caused a "morphine effect" that led to respiratory failure and ultimately her death.

The report also said that Peterson "had a variety of prescription drugs in her system, including anti-anxiety medication, anti-psychotic medication, opiates and marijuana," Variety said. "One of the pain meds in her body was at six times the appropriate level."

Peterson reportedly had a long history of substance abuse issues, including multiple arrests on drug charges in her hometown of Greeley, Colorado over the past 20 years. Her latest arrest was in May 2012 on DUI and drug paraphernalia charges, according to Variety.

Peterson shot to fame after starring alongside Patrick Dempsey in 1987's "Can't Buy Me Love," though she eventually left Hollywood for good in 1994 to move back home to Colorado.
