J.J. Abrams Reveals Origins of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Villains

star wars force awakens jj abrams kylo ren darth vaderThe Force is strong with Kylo Ren, the Darth Vader-obsessed villain in J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." But unlike Vader, don't expect Ren to be playing for Team Sith.

"[He] is not a Sith," Abrams revealed in Empire Magazine's cover story on the film. While we have known that Adam Driver's character idolizes the number one cause of death for guys named "Captain Needa," and models his mask and general appearance after Vader, this is the first we are hearing of his lack of allegiance to the Sith, the evil version of Jedi knights.

"[Kylo Ren] works under Supreme Leader Snoke," Abrams said, "who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force." Snoke is the rumored motion-capture character played by Andy Serkis, with Snoke seemingly set up to be the new trilogy's version of supreme baddie Emperor Palpatine.

"The Force Awakens" also features The First Order, an Imperial-like dark force that, according to Abrams, are based less on the Empire that came before and more on... the Nazis?

"That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?" Abrams told Empire.

He went on to say: "What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn't get done?"

So, basically, The First Order are picking up where the Empire left off. And Ren is a collector of Nazi Vader memorabilia.

This movie can't get here fast enough.

"Force Awakens" hits theaters Dec. 18.
