New on DVD and Blu-ray

"Ex Machina"
Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander star in this inventive sci-fi thriller from Alex Garland, the genius writer of "28 Days Later." Critics and audiences both gave this one the thumbs-up with "Ex Machina" currently boasting a 91 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. DVD/Blu-ray extras include a "Through the Looking Glass: Creating Ex Machina" 5-part featurette, SXSW Q&A with cast and crew, and eight behind-the-scenes vignettes.

"The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"
This sequel to the 2012 charmer "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" stars the always engaging Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, and Dev Patel with the welcome addition of Richard Gere. Blu-ray extras include featurettes on "Returning to the Marigold Hotel," "Blossoming Relationships," "The Marigold Wedding," and "Filming in India."

"X-Men: Days of Future Past: The Rogue Cut"
Maybe you've already seen (or purchased) Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past," but the director says the "Rogue Cut" is not just an extended edition, it's an alternate version of the movie -- with more focus on Anna Paquin's Rogue and a ton of other special features.

New on Netflix

"BoJack Horseman"
Will Arnett is back as humanoid horse BoJack Horseman in Season 2 of Netflix's cult hit. Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul. lend their voices to this very adult animated comedy, which is available July 17.

"Creep"
You have to be careful of a movie with a title like "Creep" but this horror comedy -- starring Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice -- is surprising and twisted in all the best ways. Check it out starting July 14.

"Changeling"
Angelina Jolie stars in Clint Eastwood's 2008 drama set in 1920s Los Angeles. Angie plays a single mother who comes home to find her son gone, then thinks her prayers are answered when he's later found. But it turns out ... that's not her son. Things get weird, and you can watch it play out starting July 16.

New Video on Demand, Rental Streaming, and Digital Only

"Far From the Madding Crowd"
Carey Mulligan stars as Bathsheba Everdene in this sweeping adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic. Watch this independent woman in her own version of "The Bachelorette" with three different suitors: a sheep farmer (Matthias Schoenaerts); a dashing soldier (Tom Sturridge); and a prosperous, older bachelor (Michael Sheen). "Far From the Madding Crowd" is out on Blu-ray/DVD release on August 4, but the Digital HD release is this week on July 17.

"Clouds of Sils Maria"
Juliette Binoche plays Maria, a renowned actress who is cast opposite a scandal-prone young Hollywood starlet (Chloƫ Grace Moretz). Maria prepares with her assistant (Kristen Stewart) for the most challenging role of her life, while facing her personal demons and confronting what it means to be an actress in a youth-obsessed industry. Watch this acclaimed drama on Digital HD and DVD on July 14.

"Caffeinated"
Every cup of coffee has a story. Make a cup for yourself and watch this documentary, which is being released nationwide and on iTunes, Amazon, On Demand, etc. on July 14. The filmmakers focus on the social and cultural landscape of coffee, giving viewers unprecedented access to the farmers responsible for growing that perfect bean, and the producers responsible for brewing that perfect cup.

TV Worth Watching

"Running Wild With Bear Grylls" (Monday on NBC at 10 p.m.)
More celebrities are ready to run wild with Bear in Season 2 of his adventure show. In the July 13 premiere, Bear takes actress Kate Hudson on a 48-hour journey through the Dolamites, one of the most treacherous mountain ranges in Italy. According to the synopsis, "As they hike toward the Austrian border on snow-covered exposed rock cliffs, they make some historical discoveries and work together to survive the elements. Kate also gives Bear a peek into her unique upbringing."

"Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll" (Thursday on FOX at 10 p.m.)
Denis Leary's new comedy series launches its 10-episode first season on FX on July 16. Leary plays Johnny Rock, the lead singer of the fictional band The Heathens, with Elizabeth Gillies as Gigi, his daughter, who is a talented singer herself. Here's the synopsis for the premiere, "Don't Wanna Die Anonymous": "Watching a sold out Afghan Whigs reunion show leads Johnny to try and get his old band back together."

"Tut" (Sunday on Spike at 9 p.m.)
Sir Ben Kingsley, Avan Jogia and Alexander Siddig star in Spike's ambitious three-night, six-hour limited event series dramatizing one of history's most extraordinary rulers, Tutankhamun aka King Tut. Watch the saga play out from Sunday, July 19 - Tuesday, July 21 (9-11 p.m.).
