"The future isn't what it used to be," Yogi Berra reportedly said. George Clooney expresses a similar sentiment in Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland," the new sci-fi summer blockbuster opening this weekend.
The film centers on a teen (Britt Robertson) who travels through time and space to a glittering, futuristic city full of wonder (and jet packs!). It's inspired by the kind of old-fashioned, shiny-surfaced optimism for the future that resulted in such dream utopias as the Disneyland attraction of the title. While "Tomorrowland" isn't a traditional time-travel film, it does take audiences on an inspired trip to the future.
