Christoph Waltz Claims He's Not Playing Blofeld in 'Spectre'

Simon Wiesenthal Center Honors Harvey Weinstein - Red Carpet

The team behind the newest James Bond flick, "Spectre," can insist all they want that Christoph Waltz is not playing classic villain Blofeld, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from thinking that that's just a ruse. Now, Waltz himself is doubling down on the denial.

In an interview with GQ UK, Waltz was asked point-blank whether his character is actually Blofeld, and the Oscar winner didn't mince words with his response.

"That is absolutely untrue," Waltz told the magazine. "That rumour started on the Internet, and the Internet is a pest. The name of my character is Franz Oberhauser."

So there you have it: Waltz is definitely not playing Blofeld. Or is he?

Despite Waltz and co.'s vehement denials, it seems that this rumor just won't die, and there's good reason. The Bond team has played similar tricks in the past, claiming that Naomie Harris wasn't playing Moneypenny in "Skyfall." And then there's the example set by Benedict Cumberbatch, who also repeatedly denied that he would be playing Khan in 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness," then wound up portraying that very villain in the flick.

We'd like to take Waltz at his word, but we admit we're reserving judgement on this rumor until "Spectre" debuts. It's due in theaters on November 6.
