Slyvester Stallone to Produce 'The Expendables' Event Series for Fox

Premiere Of Lionsgate Films'

"The Expendables" may be moving from the big screen to the small screen: Deadline reports that Fox is working on an event series based on the action franchise.

According to the trade, "Expendables" mastermind Sylvester Stallone is on board to executive produce the show, which would feature well-known television action stars of yore, in much the same way as the films have recycled '80s and '90s heroes. Per Deadline:

It is described as a fun action drama that unites iconic TV stars as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist.

There is no cast attached or approached yet but the producers have plenty of beloved TV action stars to choose from: 'Walker, Texas Ranger''s Chuck Norris, who already is part of 'The Expendables' feature franchise, '24''s Kiefer Sutherland, 'Magnum, P.I.''s Tom Selleck, 'Xena''s Lucy Lawless, 'Quantum Leap''s Scott Bakula, 'Alias'' Jennifer Garner, 'A-Team''s Mr. T, and 'Strike Back''s Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester, just to name a few.

Those are certainly some big names, and even a fraction of them would no doubt draw eyeballs to the series. But just how likely is it that this show will get off the ground?

Deadline reports that the series already has a solid creative team in place. Aside from Stallone, Avi Lerner, who also produces the "Expendables" films, will co-executive produce. Television veteran Shane Brennan ("NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles") will serve as showrunner, and will also co-write the series alongside scribes Greg Coolidge ("Ride Along") and Kirk Ward.

We'll see if that behind-the-scenes talent is enough to lure some of those stars back to the small screen. Stay tuned.
