The Cannes Film Fest, which famously banned flats for women on the red carpet, has now banned selfies.
Thierry Fremaux, artistic director of the prestigious and and star-studded French film fest, has long tried to cut down on the practice of selfies. Now, they're not allowed at all, although it's not clear how that will be enforced.
He told Le Film Français, "On the red carpet, the trivial aspect and the slowing down provoked by the disorder which these selfies create tarnishes the quality of [the red carpet experience] and of the festival as a whole," he said.

Fremaux
has also nixed morning press screenings for films that will be premiering later that evening. He says that will "revamp the attractiveness of and gloss to gala evenings... The suspense will be total!"
Journalists who didn't make it into the star-studded gala premiere will be able to see the films the next morning. According to Variety, all screenings throughout the day will be open to professionals, press and other guests.
The 71st Cannes Film Fest starts on Tuesday, May 8. The official selections will be announced on April 12.
