Disney's Live-Action 'Aladdin' Will 'Rip Things Down and Start Again,' Says Naomi Scott

Premiere Of Lionsgate's 'Power Rangers' - ArrivalsThe new "Aladdin" will have some big changes.

With Disney working on a live-action remake of the animated classic, actress Naomi Scott has revealed that old fans will see an updated story. These aren't minor tweaks; her colleagues "weren't afraid to really just rip things down and start again," she told THR.

Scott's character, Princess Jasmine, will benefit from many of the changes, according to the actress. She highlighted how Disney's princesses have become more real, including Jasmine.

"She's a multidimensional woman, and she doesn't have to just be one thing," Scott said. "So in this movie, you see her go on such a roller coaster, as opposed to her one goal being to fall in love or get married."

Part of making sure that happened was adding a character so that Jasmine would have a friendship with someone besides her pet tiger, Rajah. The film will introduce Dalia (Nasim Pedrad), a woman who is both handmaiden to the princess and her best friend.

"I never realized it, but in the animation, Jasmine is really the only female character -- isn't that crazy?" Scott said.

Dalia is "so important," Scott said, because she's another female character and Jasmine's childhood friend. Presumably, she'll be a close confidante to the princess and help her through this "roller coaster" (or should we call it a magic carpet ride?).

While the changes coming in "Aladdin" are big, they sound smart. Jasmine could use a friend that can actually speak to her, after all. Besides, it doesn't mean Rajah is getting replaced; the lovable tiger will still be part of the story, according to EW.

"Aladdin" is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
