Big changes are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and you're going to want to prepare yourself.
When "Avengers 4" hits theaters in 2019, it will mark the end of an era. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently spoke with Vanity Fair and teased "things you've never seen in superhero films: a finale." It is unclear what exactly that means for the beloved superhero team, but it does seem like it could spell bad news for at least some of them.
Scarlett Johansson, whose involvement in the MCU dates back to 2010's "Iron Man 2," made it sound like her Black Widow days are numbered when she spoke to the magazine.
"I feel a lot of joy for the next generation," she said. "It's a bittersweet feeling, but a positive one."
That might not bode well for the standalone Black Widow film fans have been calling for, but like she says, there is a lot of promise for the next generation. Disney has rights to 7,000 characters, as CEO Bob Iger noted, and we've been seeing new ones introduced. Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) is an example of a recent addition, and his film will open in 2018.
The studio currently has 22 MCU films under its belt and another 20 are lined up, according to Feige. Marvel and Disney have big plans for life after The Avengers series.
"There will be two distinct periods," Feige told Vanity Fair. "Everything before 'Avengers 4' and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting."
We're a little worried for "Avengers 4" now, but we're still looking forward to its May 3, 2019 release.
