It's not exactly shocking -- characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are always popping into each other's movies to kick butt and borrow a cup of sugar -- but Vin Diesel confirmed the news in a lengthy Facebook video.
Diesel talked about having multiple franchise films coming out next year, including as Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2," which arrives in theaters May 5, 2017. He mentioned how his fans used to ask him, "When are you going to be in a Marvel movie?" After he had his first Marvel meeting for "Guardians," he posted a photo with an "Avengers" backdrop.
"What's gonna be surreal is that picture is going to come to pass," Diesel said, "because now the Guardians will be included in 'Avengers: Infinity Wars'-- and that's incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting, and something that if you are part of our [Facebook] page, you knew before everybody, or you were told before everybody."

"Avengers: Infinity War" is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018. That used to be called "Part 1" and now "Part 2" needs its own title. The Russo Brothers are directing, and they explained to CinemaBlend why the next two "Avengers" films will no longer share the "Infinity War" title. Joe Russo said, "We wanted the movie to be very different and distinctive, you know. There's certainly cross-pollination between characters and some story-arcs, but you know, the first movie is very clearly 'Avengers: Infinity War' and, in time, we will reveal what the second film is." Anthony Russo added, "You'll learn that, but not for quite some time."
That second upcoming "Avengers" movie isn't scheduled for release until May 3, 2019, after a bunch of other MCU movies that may or may not also feature some Guardians of the Galaxy.
