Construction Worker, 28, Dies on Set of 'Blade Runner' Sequel

A Hungarian construction worker dismantling set pieces for the 2017 "Blade Runner" sequel was killed August 25 at Origo Studios in Budapest. The studio confirmed the news, telling The Hollywood Reporter, in a statement, "The worker was underneath a platform, upon which the set was constructed, when it suddenly collapsed. The cause of the accident is not yet known."

The unnamed worker was listed as 28-years-old in a report by the Hungarian news site Index.

The film's production company, Alcon Entertainment, offered a similar statement to The Huffington Post:

"A Hungarian construction worker was tragically killed during the dismantling of a movie set on a soundstage at Origo Studios this morning. ... The worker was underneath a platform, upon which the set was constructed, when it suddenly collapsed. The cause of the accident is not yet known. The film production, the untitled sequel to 'Blade Runner,' was not shooting at Origo Studios at the time."

Production on "Blade Runner 2" -- directed by Denis Villeneuve, and starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, and Robin Wright -- had already moved on by then, Index reported (via THR), to the village of Etyek, where Korda Studios is located.

The sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi classic is currently scheduled for release October 6, 2017.
