According to Entertainment Weekly, the threequel is now called "Bad Boys For Life," and is slated for release on January 12, 2018. That's almost a full year later than the flick's initially announced release date of February 17, 2017, but at least Sony is still updating fans on the project, which Smith had insisted as recently as this past February was still happening.
As EW notes, the new title is a reference to a line from "Bad Boys II," where Smith tells Lawrence, "We ride together, we die together. Bad boys for life."
One Bad Boy who didn't sign on for life is Michael Bay, who's sitting out the proceedings this time after directing the first two films in 1995 and 2003. Now, Joe Carnahan ("The Grey," "Smokin' Aces") will be taking the helm.
According to EW, "Bad Boys 4" is still slated to happen, and also has a new release date: July 3, 2019. It's likely to get a new title, too. Stay tuned for more intel as it becomes available.
