In an interview with The Independent, Carney dismissed the Oscar-nominated actress as a "supermodel" who traveled with a large entourage, and criticized her acting. "I don't want to rubbish Keira, but you know it's hard being a film actor and it requires a certain level of honesty and self-analysis that I don't think she's ready for yet and I certainly don't think she was ready for on that film."
But other directors that Knightley has worked with rallied to her side on Twitter, like Lynn Shelton from "Laggies":
Mark Romanek of "Never Let Me Go" also tweeted his support, and countered Carney's claim about Knightley's entourage:Working with #KeiraKnightley was magnificent, top to bottom. She is the real deal. #Knightleylove

Lorene Scafaria, who worked with the actress on "Seeking a Friend For the End of the World," agreed:My recollection of #keiraknightley's "entourage" was that her mum visited the set one day for an hour or two.
