Well, sh-t, kids, sorry 'bout those f-bombs! Parents who bought their kids some McDonald's Happy Meal toys with
"Minions" characters got some despicable feedback when a few of the talking toys
sounded like they were talking dirty, saying things like "What the f--k."
"I heard what it said and I'm like, 'Whoa, hang on here,'" Taylor King, who bought a Happy Meal for his 3-year-old son,
told Fox28 in Columbus, Ohio. Alexis Hernandez told
FOX 13 her 5-year-old daughter Julissa opened up the toy while she was in the backseat of the car. Alexis said she heard "What the f--k" followed by "I'll be damned." The child's grandmother thought Julissa said it, but the kid said it was the toy.
The
New York Daily News reached out to McDonald's, and spokeswoman Lisa McComb said, "The Minion Caveman Happy Meal toy includes 3 sounds: 'para la bukay,' 'hahaha,' and 'eh eh,'" adding that cursing reports have been "exaggerated." The toys are meant to speak "Minionese," a random assortment of sounds, so maybe adults are just too used to swear words and heard the wrong things? This could be purely parental error, and that seems to be McD's stance. As McComb stated:
We're aware of a very small number of customers who have been in touch regarding this toy, and we regret any confusion or offense to those who may have misinterpreted its sounds. The allegation that this toy is saying anything offensive or profane is not true."
Here's a news video detailing the "two days of investigating" (seriously?!) that went into figuring this out:
A potty mouth Minions scandal. You can't make this stuff up ... unless they DID make it up to target the adult fans out there who might be curious enough to buy their own Minions to see if they got one of the R-rated ones. Stranger things have happened! #conspiracy
